Etiquette & Safety Guidelines

For all Palmer Park Unleashed Dog events and throughout the park, please follow these guidelines.

Dogs must be on a leash in Palmer Park at all times except inside the fenced-in City of Detroit’s Palmer Park Dog Park. The only place that is leash-free is inside the City of Detroit Dog Park in Palmer Park.

  • All dogs must be on a 5 ft. or shorter leash (no retractable leashes) for events; longer leashes for walking in the park are acceptable.

  • Dogs must be under full control of an adult at all times

  • By attending Palmer Park Dog Park events and throughout Palmer Park, pet owners assume full responsibility for their pets at all times and cannot hold event organizers, the City of Detroit or People for Palmer Park liable for any incidents or injury

  • Dogs must be well-behaved. No aggressive dogs, ill dogs, or dogs in heat

  • At special events in the park, organizers reserve the right to eject any aggressive or ill dog

  • Clean up after your dog (we have free poop bags for you if you forgot them!)

  • Do not allow your child to approach or pet a dog without owner’s permission

  • Do not allow your dog to touch or near a child without guardian’s permission

  • Do not allow your dog to get near another dog without owner’s permission

  • Your dog’s collar must fit securely; have a tag with your contact info attached

  • Watch your dog’s cues. If she/he seems agitated, stressed, scared, or reactive, please remove your dog away from others to a quiet, safe space. You can walk on the trails, or move to another section of the event or park that is calmer.
